On Sunday night, my husband and I waited with giddy anticipation, the Survivor finale, we wanted to see what Russel would do and laughed when he lost again. When it comes to Survivor people either love it passionately and can discuss for hours on end the different moves and characters that make this show so damn good. And then there are those who laugh at those of us who love it. I know about this reaction because it’s what I do when I hear people actually watch the Bachelor or Biggest Loser.
Over the last few years the number of reality shows has been staggering, from my all time fave Survivor, to ones I’ve occasionaly watched like Amazing Race, American Idol & Dancing with the Stars. What is it about these types of elimination shows that grabs us? For me, I love to see how absolute strangers interact and often clash with each other. For other people I know, they enjoy watching the progression of talent in a singer or dancer. One thing I do know with absolute certainty, I would not for any amount of money go on one of those shows. The thought of being judged by millions of people terrifies me. I think it takes alot of guts, or an absolute disregard for the opinion of others to perform on TV. Would you do it?
Now if we turn from reality TV, the other influx we’ve seen in the last few years is shows with the paranormal element. Hands up if you love Reaper, True Blood and Vampire Diaries? I am waving madly just so you know. Just like in books, the appeal of the magical, mysterious and yes even the dark and violent, draws us. Vampires have been inhabiting stories and movies alot lately from the celebrated Twilight Series to the shows mentioned above. Alpha vamps like Eric from True Blood or the delicious Damon from Vampire Diaries with their disregard for right and wrong, have made these shows fascinating to watch , especially since these bad boys are the goods guys, kind of. What paranormal show gets you excited? I know another show I watch, just not as fanatically is Fringe. I love the idea of science screwing people and places up because you never know, it could happen.
Now here’s some book series I’d like to see turned into a weekly pleasure. Anita Blake the vampire executioner series by Laurell K Hamilton. They’d need a really good Jean Claude for that one. How about the Mercy series by Patricia Briggs. Lots of werewolves in that one, yum! And let’s not forget Rachel and her charms by Kim Harrison. I’d love to see Jenks, her fairy, in action, he’s a hoot. Ooh and let’s not forget Al, the demon who can’t leave her alone. What favorite series of yours would you like to see come to life?
If I had to choose a book of mine, I’d go with Lucifer’s Daughter. So many possiblities with that one, and lots of hunky side characters. Although I’d want the same actor that plays Satan in Reaper to be in mine. No idea what his name is, but damn did he make evil look fun. Megan Fox would be perfect for the part of Muriel, princess of hell, and Ian Somerhalder to play the part of Auric, the hunk. Of course given the R rated aspect of my story, they’d only be able to air it on HBO, but that’s okay, then we could have some nudity <wink>.
Okay, daydreaming over. My work is screaming for me to get back to it. I’d love to hear about your television favorites and guilty pleasures.
