The Hardest Thing About Writing

Is waiting. And waiting and waiting some more.

Seriously. The writing part is a rush. Even when I’m done a story and I revisit it to make sure it flows and flesh it out some more is fun. But then you send it off, this poor child of your mind and you wait. And wait to see if someone else loves it as much as you do.

And the worst part is no matter what a website says about response time wether it be 4,6, 8 weeks or a year, you start watching your email five seconds after you send it. And you watch it. And… Let’s just say I do it much more often that I should.

Then there’s the agony after a publisher has gone past their posted time limit but you don’t want to look over eager. So you wait and check your email every 3 seconds.

I lack patience. I admit that. I think an editor should know the first time they read a story if it’s good. I know it’s that way for me as a reader. Some stories I like, some suck, and others make me scramble for the net looking for more from the same author.  And of course like most writers I suffer from an illness that makes me adamant that my story is like the BEST story ever. Seriously. Now if only the editors I send my manuscripts to feel the same way.

And that’s my rant.

Later.  I’m off to check my email again.

Lucifer’s Daughter is DONE!

I have to say of the five stories I’ve completed since I started writing last year, this is my favorite. Sorry Hunter, but you just got bumped. Done in a first person perspective, I had so much fun writing this piece. I never knew what Muriel, my princess from hell, would say or do next. And Auric, the hero. Damn he’s hot.

This piece is much spicier than my other work, not intentional, Muriel just wanted it that way LOL.

Loving this piece, I took a deep breath and submitted it to some publishers I really admire. I’m really hoping they like this piece as much as I do. But if they reject it, I’ve got some other publishers in mind. I know there’s going to be an editor out there that’s going to love this story.

Well that’s my update for now. I’m off to write the sequel to Muriel’s debut. I’m debating adding another man to the equation–maybe the sexy shape shifter from the first book. Mmmm… I think Muriel would like that.

My imagination is holding me hostage!

Seriously. Lucifer’s Daughter just won’t let me go. 33k words in less than a week and it’s still flying. I’m figuring I’ll hit somewhere between 38k and 40k on this one. The best part? This story is going to need a sequel or two.

Muriel, my princess from hell, has taken hold of my imagination and is making my fingers fly. On the more erotic side than my previous work, this story is fast paced, amusing and very titillating (just ask my husband who’s been reaping the rewards). With a cast of characters that is intriguing, some of whom we’ll explore more fully in later books, this category romance blows my mind away and I hope the publisher I end up sending it too will think so also.

Now I have a question to all you other writers out there. Is this kind of takeover normal? My first few books while flowing well never demanded my attention like this one did. I put aside an almost completed work that was going well to write this story. I go to bed thinking of it. I dream of it. I wake up dying to get my hands on it. It’s almost like an obsession. And then this leads to a second question– is this kind of story usually better than the one that follows a slower pace, that requires more thought?

I’d be interested in knowing.

Writing Update

I’ve noticed other writers blogging about their submissions and current projects. I’m not sure if anyone cares, but in case you do here’s my update.

:) Chance’s Game — sequel to Take A Chance — I am hoping to hear back soon on this one as the full manuscript request was back in November. Fingers crossed. I love this one cause the gods in it are a hoot!

Now as for my current works, there’s 2 of them actually.

:) I am your leader –( this title is so going to change) This is my story of alien abduction. I’m aiming for a bit more erotica in this one, so expect a lot of hot scenes. This piece is 35k words so far and I am figuring it will end up between 45-50k words. So another 2 weeks to finish fleshing out then another week or two for re-edits then this baby should be ready to go. Not sure who I want to send it to yet though.

:) Lucifer’s Daughter — This story in the midst of my alien romance demanded to be written. With over 10k words in 3 days this sucker is flying and boy is it fun. I don’t want to say too much on this one yet, but I  definitely see the heroine evolving over the course of a few books. I think this first story is going to end up between 35-45k words.

Well that’s my status report for now. You already know about The Hunter coming March 19th from AmiraPress.com and Take A Chance June 1st from ChampagneBooks.com

So see you later and happy Valentines Day!

Rosie

Who is Rosie you ask?

Only mankinds most wonderful invention ever! A mechanical marvel. What the hell am I talking about I’m sure is your next question.

My Rhoomba.

A Christmas gift from my husband who knows how much I hate to vacuum. My Rhoomba, nicknamed Rosie in honour of Judy Jetson’s awesome home helper, is  a hands free vacuum. Seriously. Want to vacuum your living room, just pick up the clutter, set Rosie down, press a button and off she goes. 45 minutes later, I have a clean room. Then simply empty her dirt cup and charge her up for the next room.

As a mom of three messy children, I have to say this is the most wonderful invention ever. It’s right up there with the dishwasher in my eyes. I love it so much I’ve told my husband next year for Christmas, I want Rosie’s brother, Scooba who guess what, washes floors! Call me lazy, call me crazy, I don’t care. I love my robot. The best part– it leaves me more time to write.

So to all you over worked women out there, who hate to vacuum like me, the next time your husband asks you what you want, or hell, the next time you want to spend your well deserved money, pick yourself up a Rhoomba, and then sit back in a chair cackling while sipping on your Pina Colada as a robot does the work for you.
